Software Requirements
- All 3D-Tool versions require graphics drivers that support at least OpenGL 1.2.
- 3D-Tool Premium requires Microsoft Visual C++ 2015-2022 [x86/x64] Redistributable to read CAD data. If it is not available, this software is automatically installed when 3D-Tool is installed.
Minimum Hardware Requirements
- 3D-Tool Basic, Advanced, Premium and the 3D-Tool Free Viewer run on a desktop PC, laptop or tablet PC with at least 4 GB of RAM and a screen resolution of 1920 x 1080 pixels or higher.
- No special or dedicated graphics card is required. 3D-Tool also works with onboard graphics cards.
Recommended Hardware
- For 3D-Tool Advanced, we recommend a desktop PC or laptop with at least 8 GB of RAM.
- For 3D-Tool Premium, we recommend a desktop PC or laptop with at least 16 GB of RAM.
- We recommend a Full-HD screen resolution. A special CAD graphics card is not necessary, however, we recommend a dedicated graphics card that supports OpenGL 3.3. or higher, such as the current Nvidia GeForce or AMD Radeon cards.
Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

Does 3D-Tool run in a virtual machine?
Whether 3D-Tool runs reliably in a virtual machine depends on the virtualization environment and its graphics support. The guest system must meet the Windows, memory and OpenGL requirements listed above; the capabilities of the host computer alone are not sufficient. Test the intended environment with the free trial and your own CAD files. Clarify activation and licensing with 3D-Tool Support before deployment. Compatibility with every virtualization solution cannot be guaranteed.

Are terminal servers supported?
Yes. Server licenses are available on request for using 3D-Tool on an application server or terminal server with multiple concurrent users, starting from four users. Please contact 3D-Tool Support to clarify the appropriate license and your planned server environment. The remote session must provide the required graphics support. The server also needs sufficient memory and processing power for the users and models involved. Test performance with your own CAD files before deployment.

Are onboard graphics sufficient?
Yes. 3D-Tool also works very well with onboard graphics; a dedicated CAD graphics card is not required. The graphics driver must support at least OpenGL 1.2, but we recommend OpenGL 3.3 or higher. Processor performance and available memory are also crucial when opening and converting CAD files. Use the free trial to assess performance with your own models.

Are 3D mice supported?
Yes. 3D-Tool supports 3Dconnexion 3D mice for zooming, rotating and panning 3D models in the view. Install the appropriate 3Dconnexion driver for your device and Windows version. A 3D mouse is optional, however: with a standard mouse, you can also move the model intuitively using the left and right mouse buttons and the mouse wheel, without any additional keyboard keys.
