3D-Tool prepares CAD data for exchange with customers and suppliers, visualization and 3D printing. The 3D-NativeCAD Converter included in 3D-Tool Premium converts supported CAD models into exchange formats such as STEP, IGES, JT, Parasolid X_T and SAT. Exact geometry can only be exported if the source file already contains exact geometry.

For presentations and model sharing, the converter also creates visualization files such as 3D-PDF, 3D-HTML and glTF. The 3D-Tool Viewer exports triangulated models in formats such as STL, OBJ or PLY for use in 3D printing and rendering software.

Convert 3D CAD data

The 3D-NativeCAD Converter converts many common 3D CAD formats into exact 3D models (BREP) in STP, IGS, X_T, SAT, and JT format. This makes it a flexible and cost-effective interface for many CAD applications.

  • If the model contains assembly information, select individual assemblies and parts for conversion.
  • For STEP output, choose between output versions AP214 and AP242.
  • For JT output, choose between output versions 8.1, 9.5, and 10.0.

The 3D-Tool Viewer saves 3D models in the visualization formats STL, OBJ, PLY, 3DS, WRL, U3D and PDF. It serves as a flexible CAD interface for 3D printing and 3D rendering software.

  • When importing 3D CAD formats, control the visualization resolution - and with it the display quality and file size.
  • In the viewer, merge multiple files into one model or split a model into multiple files.
  • Delete, duplicate, scale, and position parts and assemblies directly in the viewer.

The 3D-Tool Viewer saves 3D models in various visualization and 3D printing formats. Since the models are already triangulated when loaded into the viewer, output as exact geometry (BREP) is not possible.

Which native CAD formats can 3D-Tool read?

Can 3D-Tool convert CAD files into other CAD files?

Yes. The 3D-NativeCAD Converter converts CAD data to standardized exchange formats that can be read by almost any CAD system. It is part of 3D-Tool Premium. In addition, the 3D-Tool Viewer saves models in visualization formats such as STL, OBJ and 3D-PDF.

Can I choose the STEP or JT output version?

Yes. For STEP output you can choose between AP214 and AP242, and for JT output between versions 8.1, 9.5 and 10.0.

Can 3D-Tool also save individual parts from assemblies?

With the 3D-NativeCAD Converter in 3D-Tool Premium, you select individual parts from an assembly and convert them separately. In the 3D-Tool Viewer, you can also save selected components separately. This lets you selectively share components from large assemblies or process them individually.
